about

This is from one of the last tours that TSSF did. It was recorded at the "Whiskey A Go Go in LA, October of 2001". In August of that year, Denis(vocals) had left the band...So with Denis gone, we weren't really sure what we were going to do. Cris suggested we talk to Rick Paulger about joining the band. Rick was the singer in King For A Day and Roosevelt's Inaugural Parade, and Cris had been in both those bands too, so it just seem to make sense. To our surprise, Rick was into it, and immediately moved to Chicago from Detroit. We started working on finishing new songs for what we hoped would be an album to follow up the EP we released on Hopeless Records the year before. We worked up 2 new songs for the tour we had booked, this one. and another called "Insight". Both of those songs are 2 of my favorite songs we wrote in the band. With the new line up for the band solidified, we head out to the west coast for what would be one of my favorite tours I've ever been on! The tour was with The Suicide Machines, BigWig, and Ensign. This would also be the only time the band toured the west coast. There are so many stories from this tour... Some bad, most of them amazing. The night that this recording is from is no exception! Getting to play the Whiskey, especially in front of a sold out crowd, was a real "check this off the music bucket list" kind of moment for me. There was a lot of hype happening around the band at the time, and I remember our roadie, Matt, telling me " Hey dude, there is a couple dudes in suits with cigars asking what time you go on". Nothing ever seemed to happen with that kind of stuff, but it was cool that people were interested. The show was a blast, and the after show was ridiculous! I remember someone had the idea of going to the Rainbow Room, so we headed over to drink. It was like something out of a fucking movie! Lemmy was there hanging out, as well as various other metal heads. Awesome! I was out front right before we were leaving and someone goes to me, "Here's Ozzy Kid", and I look over and its Kelly Osbourne. I just looked at her and said "So..." She gave me this ridiculous look, said something shitty, and left. We all had a laugh. I remember thinking to myself, " Isn't this kid like 14? WTF is she doing at a bar on the sunset strip ?". After all of that, we headed back to some girl's house that was friends with our drummer. I woke up in the morning, it was pitch black in the place, I couldn't see a thing, and I had no idea where I was. None of the band were there, I was just sleeping on some random floor. I got up , and went outside to find Cris and our drummer passed out on someones front lawn, and all the doors to our van were wide open! Luckily, nothing was missing, and we laughed and were on to the next adventure. Those were the days... Somehow, we ended up with this live recording from our set that night. We did end up starting to record the album after the tour was over, but some more line up changes, and other drama, and the band broke up in 2002 before the record was ever finished... I think I might have a rough mix of the songs somewhere, but I was never able to get the actual session files from the engineer, so as of now, those studio recordings are lost to time.
